The Lane Check is operated by Vent Pro NYC LLC, 1712 East 22nd Street, New York, NY 11229, United States. “The Lane Check” is a trading name used by that company for this service. Subscription payments are processed by Stripe and will appear on your statement as LANECHECK.

What this site does with a VIN you enter

When you enter a VIN, it is sent from your browser directly to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public APIs in order to decode the vehicle and retrieve owner complaint and recall records for that year, make and model. Those requests go from your device to NHTSA. Their handling of that request is governed by NHTSA’s own policies.

We do not operate a server that receives your VINs. This site is a static page; there is no account, no login and no database of searches held by us.

What is stored on your device

Recent VIN searches — the last six VINs you looked up are stored in your browser’s localStorage so the Recent buttons work. This never leaves your device.
Nothing else is stored. There are no cookies set by this site.

You can remove them at any time with the Clear recent VINs button in the footer of the main page, or by clearing site data for this domain in your browser.

Third-party services this page uses

NHTSA vPIC, Complaints and Recalls APIs — receive the VIN or the year/make/model you look up.
Google Fonts — the page loads typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Google receives your IP address and browser details as part of serving those files. No VIN or search data is sent to Google.
Cloudflare — hosts and serves this site, and may process connection information such as IP address as part of delivering it.

What we do not collect

No analytics, tracking pixels, advertising or behavioural profiling.
No name, email address or payment details are collected by this page.
No VIN history is retained by us after you close the page, beyond the local list described above.

If you subscribe, payment is handled separately by Stripe and is governed by their terms and privacy policy.
